First Day Back

Oh the first day back to school. When I was younger I dreaded this day, but now it’s filled with different emotions.

Today I started year 5! Gosh I can hardly believe it. It seems so unreal that five years ago I transitioned into this special profession. So far being a teacher has been such a blur. Maybe it’s because I never imagined I’d be here, but teaching has fueled so many passions it’s only natural I can’t seem to find the correct words to explain what I’m feeling.

It all begins with that nervous and anxious feeling of getting back into a solid routine. I’m also excited to see my students both filled with worry and enthusiasm. Then I feel a huge disconnect from my summer love–my bed. Lastly I feel inspired. Returning to school always makes me feel as if I have to set new goals for myself.

Of course I want to be a good role model, I want to teach passionately, I want to create opportunities, make students wonder, share innovative ideas, etc.

As of late, I just want to relate. I want students to look at me and think, “she’s just like us.” I want them to see my mistakes and learn from them. I want them to see what life altering changes I’m making and hope they be moved by them. I want to show and tell. I want students to use my fears and turn them into their fighting courage. Most importantly I want them to challenge themselves farther than ever simply because they can. Simply because I’ve got their backs.

And just as year 5 began I realized, that this is where I need to be.

What I wore: Skit was a Mexican store find, I’m going to update you all on soon. Top and necklace from Maurice, and my shoes (I was on my feet all day so I needed band aids by the end) are from JCPenney.

I’ll share more details about these items later. For now, I’m just adjusting to being back. It feels good.

PS: I also love school so much because this is where I met the love of my life. Mr. Womacks. I 143 him!

On a sad note, our family and consumer science teacher, Mrs. Voran passed away on Saturday after her long fight with cancer. School today seemed so off. It was different to start on a sad note. She was a great work-friend. And I enjoyed watching her interact with her club, FCCLA. She will be missed, but her devotion for teaching will live on. I dedicate this blog to her.

As always,

Blue print dress

I’m caught in between wishing warm weather would stay, and a slight transition into fall.

Let’s face it cooler weather and shorter days are among us, but there’s no need to hide away, that perfect dress is waiting for you. For example I’ve dying over this Blue Print Dress, from Zaful.

Screen Shot 2017-08-17 at 7.24.08 PM

I’ve been into the color blue lately (as you can see from my last two posts). So this dress caught my eye instantly because of the print is simply subtle. I can see this piece paired with heel sandals or ankle booties, which is more appropriate for fall (keep the toes warm). Another “cool” thing about this dress is that it gives me the boho feels. I want to be able to experiment with different styles and lately I’ve been too afraid to just change it up. Sometimes I struggle to define who I am in terms of my clothes, but this dress allows me to express who I am in many ways. Yay for versatility.

How to wear this blue printed dress?

Blue Printed Dress

Because I am aiming for the boho look I’ve decided to keep warm weather for longer and pair this dress with heel sandals, cute sunglasses, a double necklace, and a big bag with a fringe. These accessories help compliment the dress in a light way. The glasses and the necklace aren’t bold and won’t distract from the pretty pattern of the dress. In addition the bag and heels join forces to both help compliment the over all look.

The entire look can be found at Zaful. You can click the link to visit each item.

How would you style this dress?

Always and Again: Two Way

I’ve spent the majority of the day browsing through my blog. It really came to my surprise how much I’ve changed. Not in a major way. Not in the way that I feel I’m a different person entirely. But in the way this blog has evolved. It’s been such a learning experience getting to see how much my style has changed. This blog has continued to be a place where I can express who I am through my clothes. Some of my posts have been so ridiculous and I’ve worn some questionable items, but it’s nothing I regret. A major thing that I’ve notice is that I feel more confident, secure, and even adventurous in how I dress and express myself. Even how I pose has improved. There are still so many things I want to do with this blog and I’m really excited to see where it goes and what I learn. I love to write. I love photography. I love clothes. So for now, I’ll enjoy everything this blog to offer me. An escape.

Now as I was looking around, I came to discover some pieces that I’ve worn on here multiple times and I thought I’d share how I repeat them. It’s been awhile since I’ve done this series. The main thing with my clothes is that I only buy items I know I’m going to wear more than three times. Check out these two items and how I’ve styled them. Which is your favorite?

4 Long Plaid

My long plaid shirt from Forever 21. I wore it in the winter time underneath my favorite leather jacket for a cool girl vibe. That’s how I ultimately feel about this shirt. Cool. Just recently I showed it off a bit more by wearing nothing but it around town. Again, I felt cool.

5 Green Jumpsuit

This is my favorite jumpsuit because the color is so neat. The first time I wore this green jumpsuit from Forever 21 was in the fall. I paired it with booties and my fuzzy jacket. Lately I layered it with a white t-shirt and sandals for an every-day-look. It’s just everything. I can’t wait to wear this thing again.

I’ve got a weekend packed of cleaning and organizing before Micah and I head out to Mexico for our mission trip. We are both really excited about it. I can’t wait to share with you all how I’m packing. Stay tune. Have a good week. I’ll see you all on Monday again. As always.

Faux Pas

For as long as I can remember black tones just didn’t go well with brown tones. It was a faux pas, you just didn’t do it. Needless to say that I have followed this act until recently. Black is my favorite to color to wear, but as of late, brown has been attracting me. So because of this I’ve purchased a lot of brown toned heels, which according to me go with everything and anything.

I’ve decided to ditch the fact that these two colors simply can’t be friends and I’ve accepted to embrace how wonderful I seem to feel in both at the same time. This top, although not entirely brown, gives into the black shorts and brown heels. It’s a perfect match. I found it at TJMAXX for a mere $12.99. This top, off the shoulder, is perfect for evening out unwanted tan lines. I’m still working on mine. As always.

Light green

Today’s post is later than usual. I’ve had quite a day. I spent most of my morning organizing and cleaning. My afternoon was spent catching up with the sister MariAntonia from my church. The evening was spent running errands. All to which I came home to my dog barking loud and with distraught. I approached her just to come and find a huge snake coiled up ready to attack her. My father came out, shovel in hand, and spiked the animal. Whew, close one.

What I wore today was this top from Maurices. In Dodge City, there is hardly anywhere decent to shop. You have Maurices and the Buckle. I alternate from time-to-time which of these stores I actually enter, as most of my shopping is done online. As of late Maurices has tickled my fancy and I’ve gone on a  bit of a shopping spree there. This top is one of my many great finds I’m excited to share with you all.

What I like the most about this piece is the gray and green tones. These are two of my favorite colors. It’s delicate and cool. It flows. It goes well with a lot of already favorite pieces. It’s perfect.

More on this look towards the bottom. As always.

Off the shoulder

From time to time I enjoy following current trends. Other times I’m okay shopping the sales rack and falling behind fashion must haves for the simple pleasure of being comfortable. However when I saw this gingham top at TJMAXX I simply couldn’t walk away from it. It screams every fashion trend currently being followed. It’s off the shoulder, it’s the “it” pattern, and it’s flowy. Perfect for summer.

The black and white pattern was paired with my favorite pair of black jeans from Forever 21 and this lovely necklace was worn as a good stand out color. Of course it had to be red.

As I struggle to find motivation this summer, I’ve realized that instead of making all these plans (that aren’t going to be accomplished), I’m going to take each day as it comes. This weekend I spent the majority of the time shopping with my mom and helping my dad around the house. It wasn’t planned, but man did it feel good to actually do something with my life. I crave summer break every March, but then at the end of June I can’t wait for August and school to be in full swing. It’s that time my friends.

Until then and as always.

Tiny Flowers

Soccer season as come to an end and summer is right around the corner. All of this can only mean one thing, down time. This is a good thing. I want to focus a little bit more on my blog and I’m also excited to be able to journal what’s been happening lately.

So this shoot was from what seems like ages ago, but it was taken when it appeared spring was coming, of course in Kansas one can never be too sure. It was a windy day, but honestly for the first time the sun was warm. I usually like days like that.

Not being prepared, with my sense of weather, I wore this green top I often wear to work. I like it because you can tie it around the neck. It just gives off a work-place vibe. The jeans are sort of my favorite textured bottoms. Trust me, I’m not as adventurous when it comes to my bottoms, but when I saw these jeans, with tiny flowers I had to get them. They are from Target. I really enjoy the way the fit and also the way they absolutely change my outfits.

You might also notice my heel-sandals. I got this pair in nude because I plan on wearing them with everything! So far they’ve been so versatile I can hardly stop myself from jumping up and down. Note, they will be on here a lot! Stay tune.

As always.

Off Duty

1

Today was the last official day of semester 1. I’ve been having so much teaching that I just can’t believe how fast year 4 is flying. It seems like just yesterday was the first day of school and now we’re halfway through. Yikes!

Winter break is always my favorite break though, not just because it’s festive, but because I don’t have to travel around as much in the cold weather. The cold weather doesn’t motivate me in the least. What’s worse is that tomorrow we are expected to receive some heavy snow! Gasp.

Meanwhile, school’s out, and the first thing I did was jump into some leggings to be with cozy with. I had a couple errands to run before I couldn’t stand being cold any longer (I truly am I cold wimp).

I’ve been falling in love with purpose bag packs. This one is from Target. I bought it a few years back so that I could haul my camera around. Today it serves the purpose of carrying all these other unnecessary items; like store receipts.

Keep warm, friends, as always
