First Day Back

Oh the first day back to school. When I was younger I dreaded this day, but now it’s filled with different emotions.

Today I started year 5! Gosh I can hardly believe it. It seems so unreal that five years ago I transitioned into this special profession. So far being a teacher has been such a blur. Maybe it’s because I never imagined I’d be here, but teaching has fueled so many passions it’s only natural I can’t seem to find the correct words to explain what I’m feeling.

It all begins with that nervous and anxious feeling of getting back into a solid routine. I’m also excited to see my students both filled with worry and enthusiasm. Then I feel a huge disconnect from my summer love–my bed. Lastly I feel inspired. Returning to school always makes me feel as if I have to set new goals for myself.

Of course I want to be a good role model, I want to teach passionately, I want to create opportunities, make students wonder, share innovative ideas, etc.

As of late, I just want to relate. I want students to look at me and think, “she’s just like us.” I want them to see my mistakes and learn from them. I want them to see what life altering changes I’m making and hope they be moved by them. I want to show and tell. I want students to use my fears and turn them into their fighting courage. Most importantly I want them to challenge themselves farther than ever simply because they can. Simply because I’ve got their backs.

And just as year 5 began I realized, that this is where I need to be.

What I wore: Skit was a Mexican store find, I’m going to update you all on soon. Top and necklace from Maurice, and my shoes (I was on my feet all day so I needed band aids by the end) are from JCPenney.

I’ll share more details about these items later. For now, I’m just adjusting to being back. It feels good.

PS: I also love school so much because this is where I met the love of my life. Mr. Womacks. I 143 him!

On a sad note, our family and consumer science teacher, Mrs. Voran passed away on Saturday after her long fight with cancer. School today seemed so off. It was different to start on a sad note. She was a great work-friend. And I enjoyed watching her interact with her club, FCCLA. She will be missed, but her devotion for teaching will live on. I dedicate this blog to her.

As always,

Mix Match

The moment I saw this pretty sweater from Maurices my heart melted. Still on the hanger, I imagined the endless outfits this sweater could bring. With that said, this cut-out love was going in my closet. So for the first time, I paired it with this red skort from Forever 21. I’ve haven’t worn these bottoms as often as I’d like, so when browsing for what would look great with the sweater, I instantly knew these two would compliment each other perfectly. And they do! I’m always thrilled when I see the shades of pink and red mixed together. I quiet enjoy how these colors feed off of each other in such a way that love is transmitted in my soul. Oh to love…

Also on the blog are these heels again. They are new and they are on repeat.

In less than three days, Micah and I will be traveling to Yucatan, Mexico for a wonderful mission trip. I’ll have limited internet access, but I’ll be posting as often as I can. Until then, I’ll be sharing what I’m packing, and how I’m preparing to serve the Lord. As always.

From the bottom

I’m so excited to share with you all my new mules courtesy of H&M. It’s tough living in Dodge City sometimes, as southwest Kansas isn’t always fashion friendly. It’s a constant struggle for me. But I love home. Anyway, a lot of my friends scorned me for even trying to buy mules, so I didn’t buy them, until now. When I saw these I fell in love with everything about them. They are cool. They are textured. They are of perfect height. They are versatile. I’m just ready to wear them 24/7.

What I’ve learned about living in a small town is that people aren’t always going to be in your favor, but in order to stay true to who you are, you have to leave those thoughts behind. I’m me unapologetic. I hope this blog reflects that.

Today, I wore the mules with my new top from Maurices, because of late, it’s my go-to shop for in store browsing. The top is delicate itself so the mules give it a nice compliment.

I hope you enjoy seeing these babies often. As always.

I had such a great weekend. I traveled to Wichita to hang out with my little soccer sister from college ball. It’s so important for me to keep in contact with her, and when I can, I like to spend time with her. We shared our love for the game during a FC Wichita soccer match and after we club hopped the downtown area. It was fun to get away, if for only for a day.

Today, I spent the major of my time napping, relaxing, but also helping my parents run some errands. It’s been life lately. Next week I will start to prepare for my mission trip to Mexico with Micah. I hope to be able to share with you all my travel advice along with what I’m wearing and how preparing for this trip. There’s so much to do in so little time.

Since the majority of the day was spent running from indoors to outdoors I wore this very pretty blue top from the Buckle. I bought it last year during our rodeo day festival, but in reality it screams delicate and fine. I love the “V” detail and the lace. In addition the color is the perfect shade of blue.

I hope everyone’s Monday was filled with many accomplishments. Thinking of you, as always.

Faux Pas

For as long as I can remember black tones just didn’t go well with brown tones. It was a faux pas, you just didn’t do it. Needless to say that I have followed this act until recently. Black is my favorite to color to wear, but as of late, brown has been attracting me. So because of this I’ve purchased a lot of brown toned heels, which according to me go with everything and anything.

I’ve decided to ditch the fact that these two colors simply can’t be friends and I’ve accepted to embrace how wonderful I seem to feel in both at the same time. This top, although not entirely brown, gives into the black shorts and brown heels. It’s a perfect match. I found it at TJMAXX for a mere $12.99. This top, off the shoulder, is perfect for evening out unwanted tan lines. I’m still working on mine. As always.

Winter break has been good to me. I’ve been able to spend time with family and Micah without watching the clock. However, I know work will start back up on Thursday, and for once I’m ready for it. It’s been a long break and at this point I’m ready to be back in motion. Being lazy and unproductive can be nice, but only to a certain point, needless to say it’s time to grind some gears. I’m excited to see what 2017 has in store for me (work wise) and how the second semester will play out for my students.

In the meantime, I’m finding joy in the little things, like parading around town. The weather was super nice today, unusually for January and winter, but I’ll take it. I was able to wear just a light sweater. I got this lovely and long sweater from my trip to Norway almost three years ago, goodness time flies. I paired the deep blue sweater with light colors hues just so the sweater would stand out. The boots are hard to wear around for such a long time, so it’s nice to live them at a slow pace.

Farewell year, you’ve been great

new years

This year has been great. I have so much to be thankful for. I launched the aleyrojas in April and since then I have been blessed. I have been able to document my life and have captured some pretty awesome memories. It’s been fun. But, I can’t help but look ahead. The future is so unexplainable yet and I yearn to live it. Tomorrow will be year 2013, but today (the last day of the year), I celebrate life with my grandparents, my parents, my younger brothers, and family. It’s the best feeling to have everyone together for the final hooray. Before we say hello to 2013, here are my favorite moments of 2012. I wish you all a very warm and happy New Year!!!

Bow on a windy day

If you can’t tell by the look on face; it was super windy. I almost think the wind gusted 90 mph. I normally don’t mind wearing skirts or dresses, but today it wasn’t going to be, well… acceptable. So I wore jeans and this shirt. I love it because of the bow in the middle and the buttons that are jeweled. I really hope tomorrow isn’t as windy as today, but in Kansas (especially in the southwest) you can’t leave it up to chance.
